Vancouver Convention Centre | Black Tie Wedding | Kat + Amani

I can hardly believe that half a year has gone by since Kat and Amani said ‘I do’. It feels like just yesterday we were celebrating with them and watching them tear it up on the dance floor. Their wedding was marked with sophistication, a whole lot of sparkle, and even more love! With smiles that could light up any room and hearts that illuminate the world, it was truly an honour to capture their monumentous day.
Happy Anniversary Kat and Amani!

Kat and Amani, from Seattle, knew that Vancouver was the destination for their wedding. They fell in love with the beauty of the mountains and the water. They wanted a venue that would showcase their favourite city. With floor to ceiling views of the north shore, water and mountains they knew that the Vancouver Convention Center was the venue for them. The pair agreed that although there were aspects of a traditional wedding that they enjoyed, the décor was not one of these things. They wanted something bold that created the allure of black tie elegance and intrigue. Inspired by the season, they wanted deep romantic colours (burgundy and grey and gold with accents of dusty pinks and creams), geometric dimensions and natural crystals to create a warm and intimate feeling.

In lieu of a traditional bridal party, Kat assembled her “sparkle squad” composed of her closest friends and family. The ladies got ready in the architect suite at the Fairmont Pacific Rim where they sipped champagne and donned matching sequinned robes and fluffy slippers. All the while, Amani hosted a “Gentlemen’s hour” in the lobby bar, where he and his friends played chess and sipped scotch.

Then it was time, the two made their separate ways to the seafront for their intimate first look. Surrounded by everything they first fell in love with, the mountains, the water and their favourite city. They danced around as the sun peeked through the city skyline and marvelled in how good the other looked. It was a beautiful moment, a moment where time stood still and together they were ready for the rest of their lives.

Music began to play, and Amani waited anxiously at the front as Kat began walking down the aisle alongside her father. Once their eyes met, you could instantly tell that they were so ready for this moment. Their handwritten vows had the whole room laughing and crying at the same time and their beautiful ceremony was so perfectly tailored to them that their guests were talking about it for weeks.

Kat and Amani had their first dance to John Legend’s “all of me” sung live by their DJ. As they danced the whole room lit up as indoor sparklers went off behind them. After their first dance the couple surprised their guests with a dance performance from JC Dance Studio, two couples alternated dancing, getting livelier and livelier with each song, by the end of the performance guests were raring to dance! The night drew to a closer after a late night snack and a sparkler send off on the patio under a moonlit sky.

A few words from the couple:

How would you describe your day?
Magical! The universe literally aligned for everything to go exactly perfect on our day – the sun was shining (in the middle of a cold and rainy February), all details were flawless and we had THE BEST time
What did you love about your venue?
Beautiful views, central location and classy – we wanted to have a memorable black tie wedding and no other venue could achieve the vision we had. The Vancouver Convention Centre showed off all of Vancouver’s beauty.
What is your favourite memory of the day?
I think we had 2 favorite moments – when they announced us husband and wife where we got to walk down the aisle and wave in excitement to all of our friends/family…and 2nd might be when we were at dinner and could just look around the room to see all of the ones we love there, in one spot to celebrate us
What advice do you have for other couples?
On your day, everything will be PERFECT, give yourself like 30 mins alone and for quiet time before the ceremony – that little bit of rest will give you energy that you need for your reception
